Todays style

My wardrobe staple is the skinny jean. I have just shy of 20 pairs in an array of different colours, so it would be fair to say that I have an addiction. I have decided though, that I need to veer away from my comfort zone and go for something different. I'm not a big fan of dresses but then there was a time when the thought of wearing a skinny jean would horrify me, so I will give it a shot. I want to go for a look that will keep me warm and looking fashionable whilst providing a slightly more feminine look to my indie chick inspired style.

Now I'm not going to get crazy and go all out there, so I found these items which stick to my love of understated colours and went with the burgandy boyfriend beanie hat to add something a bit brighter. I have gone with the shirt and studded boots which draw back to the masculine elements I like to have in my outfits

I love this look as I prefer to layer in the winter, I think it keeps me warmer plus I enjoy throwing things together even if I do resemble the bag lady at times!

In Love With Fashion have a special offer on for today only, with 20% off all maxi dress up until midnight, if you fancy grabbing yourself a bargain. Code: MAXINOV20 :)

Colour Trend

Burgandy, plum and maroon are a few of the names used for THE colour of Fall/Winter 2012. This rich, warm and luxurious shade is everywhere right now. Here are a range of my favourite items in this fabulous colour, from popular high street store, Topshop.

Rather than wearing it head to toe, I suggest choosing one piece at a time to avoid the fashion victim look! If you are unsure of the colour trend, you can always go for something that has a hint of it instead.

You could keep your outfit simple and brighten it up with footwear. Whether you prefer flats or heels, there is something available for work or play, day or night.

If you would rather keep the use of the shade subtle, you can wear it using accessories or cosmetics.

There are so many different ways to work this trend depending on your budget and personal style. However you choose to incorporate the hottest colour of the season into your look, as long at you don’t go OTT, you can’t go wrong!

A Wander In The Woods

I came across some pics that my dad took of me in the summer and thought I would share a couple of them with you. I wanted to mix different textures and prints using the colour black to see how it came across on camera. I don't think I have missed my calling on the modelling front but it was all a bit of fun. Hope you like!

Hair Raising!

I know of many women who spend a great amount of time getting their hair to look smooth, sleek and sophisticated. Whilst I on the other hand, love the big, messy, just rolled out of bed look.

Born with ringlets of hair as a baby, my curls have morphed into waves thanks to a few years of using straighteners in my early twenties. With my tresses at chest level, I find that rather than looking like a long haired version of Mel B in her Sporty Spice days, I veer more towards resembling ageing rocker,  Ozzy Osbourne. I want big and bouncy, not flat and lifeless.

I have tried many products promising to give my hair volume but nothing has really worked for me. I am not the kind of girl who walks about with rollers in for half the day or spends hours backcombing. What I need is something quick and easy, that actually works. So when I came across 'got2b' volumizing styling powder by Schwarzkopf, I thought I would give it a go.

The bottle is not big but a little goes a long way.

You can either pour a small amount into your hands, rub them together and apply mainly to the roots or pour it straight onto your hair for extra volume.

When you rub the powder between your fingers it disappears, leaving a gritty, almost tacky feeling which you then rub into your roots to provide the volume.

I have to say, I am quite impressed with this. Now instead of having hair which resembles my least favourite vegetable, the mushroom, with this product I am left with lovely, big, full and a very much volumized head of hair from root to tip. Me likey!

Blank Canvas

This last month has been a bit chaotic for me and between hay fever and a cold, I spent the majority of last week with tissue stuffed up my nose so I could continue do get things done. Just for the record, I did not leave the house like this!
Any kind of beauty regime had gone out of the window and I did not feel nice inside or out, so on Monday I decided it was time for some TLC.

By focusing on my face, skin, hair and nails I felt that I would left with a blank canvas, feeling fresh and ready to be "me" again.

I began with the Montagne Jeunesse Cucumber Anti Stress Peel Off Masque, which isn't something I use on a regular basis.Once it had hardened slightly, moving my face felt weird and had me wondering if this is what botox felt like. Answers on a postcard please.
I have to say though, my favourite thing about this was pealing it off. I'm very easily pleased!

As I have eczema, I have to make sure I moisturise constantly so for a change I tried Vaseline Essential Moisture Cocoa Radiant Rich Feeling Lotion. I love the smell and leaves my skin feeling as smooth as a baby's bottom.

Last year my hair took a battering after having it bleached so now I am all about condition, condition, condition. However after neglecting myself for a weeks I hadn't been keeping up my my deep conditioning regime so yesterday I used some John Frieda Frizz-Ease Miraculous Recovery Pot Strengthening Creme Masque, which left my hair feeling silky smooth.

The last thing on my list was my nails, so after filing them down I applied Rimmel 5 in 1 Nail Care which can be used as a base and top coat. With its claims of providing smoother, stronger, longer, more moisturised and shinier nails, I thought I would give it a go and my nails definitely look shiny :)

Whilst the hope is that these products do as they say on the packaging, I think sometimes knowing that you have taken a bit of time for yourself and made some effort is just as important as getting the promised results.
When I feel overtired and run down I have to remind myself of my motto: The worse you feel on the inside, the more effort needed on the outside!

What are the new rules?

When I attended a friend's 30th last month I simply got dressed without thinking twice. That was until my husband gave me 'that' look, suggesting that maybe the see through shirt with the shorts was a bit much for someone of my age. He has not and would never tell me what to wear but I always ask his opinion. I dress for me but still want him to find me attractive, we don't venture out often so I like to remind him that I can look decent when I make a bit of effort!

As the party was in someone's house, the legs out and see through shirt combo wasn't an issue but with the big 3-0 looming in my not so distant future, it did make me think about what is appropriate when it comes to age and being a mother.

With women such as Gwen Stefani, Kate Moss and Demi Moore looking better now than in their 20's, what are the new style rules for this modern world we live in?

What are your thoughts on this?

I will be on Google+ on Sunday evening (16th Sep) at 8pm if you want to chat. The topic is 'What is age appropriate?'
